A charming set of two rabbit dorei clay bells by Yakushigama (薬師窯), one of Japan’s most beloved ceramic workshops, known for its auspicious zodiac ornaments and folk-inspired designs.
The pair features two softly rounded rabbits (卯 / usagi), one in a vivid vermilion-red tone and the other in white. Each is decorated with delicate floral motifs and an auspicious character: 福 (fuku) for good fortune and 寿 (kotobuki / ju) for longevity. Together, the pair expresses wishes for happiness, prosperity, and a long life.
The rabbit is one of the twelve animals of the Japanese zodiac and is traditionally associated with gentleness, fertility, good luck, and forward progress. Its ability to leap ahead has also made it a symbol of positive advancement and success.
Yakushigama (薬師窯) is based in Seto, Aichi Prefecture, one of Japan’s historic pottery centres. Seto has been renowned for ceramic production for more than a thousand years, and Yakushigama continues this long tradition through cheerful works that combine traditional symbolism with approachable folk-inspired design.
