This vintage kokeshi doll celebrates Tanabata (七夕), Japan's beloved Star Festival, one of the country's most cherished seasonal traditions. Inspired by the ancient legend of Orihime (the Weaver Princess) and Hikoboshi (the Cowherd), who are allowed to reunite only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh month, Tanabata is a festival of hope, love, and heartfelt wishes.

The doll features a classic kokeshi form with a serene, smiling expression and a beautifully decorated body adorned with two vibrant Tanabata streamers (吹き流し, fukinagashi) in brilliant red and gold. Above them are delicate bamboo leaves, symbolizing the bamboo branches on which people hang colorful strips of paper (tanzaku) inscribed with their wishes during the festival. The textured pom-pom ornaments recreate the festive decorations traditionally displayed throughout Japanese towns and temples during Tanabata celebrations.
