TB163 - Tsubaki Grand Shrine - Lacquer Sakazuki cup 御盃
This elegant Japanese lacquer sakazuki cup (御盃) is a ceremonial sake vessel deeply rooted in Shinto tradition. Finished in a rich vermilion red lacquer with a refined gold rim, the interior is adorned with a golden mitsudomoe crest (三つ巴)—a sacred motif symbolizing harmony, protection, and the cyclical flow of divine energy. This emblem is closely associated with Shinto shrines and ritual offerings.
The original storage box is inscribed 「盃 伊勢二の宮 椿大神社」, indicating that this sakazuki was issued by Tsubaki Grand Shrine (Ise no Miya, Tsubaki Ōkami Yashiro), one of Japan’s most ancient and revered Shinto shrines, dedicated to Sarutahiko Ōkami, the deity of guidance and beginnings. Such sakazuki were traditionally used in sacred ceremonies, shrine rituals, or as auspicious commemorative items.
With its dignified form and spiritual symbolism, this piece embodies the refined beauty of Japanese lacquerware while carrying strong cultural and ritual significance. It is ideal for collectors of Shinto-related artifacts, Japanese ceremonial objects, or vintage lacquerware.
