After losing his mother at an early age, he was raised by his maternal aunt Kiyotsu Sato and took the Sato surname. After graduating from Naruko Junior High School in 1952, he began studying woodworking at the age of seventeen under Seikichi Okazaki, alongside fellow apprentices including Hideo Onuma, Jinji Okazaki, Unkichi Suzuki, and Takashi Hayasaka.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn 1964, Sato became independent and opened his own workshop in Naruko, beginning the production of traditional kokeshi. His wife, Suzuko, later joined the craft and began painting kokeshi around 1970. Sato continued working for many decades and also trained younger craftsmen, including Shizuo Hoshi and Takashi Mogaki. Beyond traditional kokeshi, he produced a variety of playful wooden figures, including cat daruma, hina dolls, and nesting dolls. He passed away in 2015 at the age of 80.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis example is accompanied by its original presentation box and printed information leaflet, making it particularly appealing as a complete vintage piece.
