CB189 - Hakata Doll Dorei Clay Bell of Nachi Falls 那智
This Dorei (clay bell) features a Hakata Ningyō (博多人形) interpretation of the Hime Daruma (姫だるま), delicately crafted and hand-painted with a serene, feminine face and vivid scenic details. Originating from Fukuoka, Hakata dolls are renowned for their smooth texture, realistic expression, and refined beauty—this bell reflects that artistry in miniature.
On the front, a vibrant hand-painted landscape depicts the iconic Nachi no Taki (那智の滝), one of Japan’s tallest and most revered waterfalls located in Wakayama Prefecture. Surrounded by lush green forests, a red pagoda, and misty mountains in the distance, the waterfall scene evokes tranquility and spiritual connection, as Nachi Falls is historically associated with Kumano Nachi Taisha, a major pilgrimage site.
Calligraphy next to the scene adds poetic character, celebrating the natural and sacred beauty of the region. A bright red braided cord is attached at the top for hanging, typical of dorei bells used both as decorative charms and auspicious talismans.
This Hime Daruma bell is not only a symbol of good luck, resilience, and femininity, but also a tribute to the spiritual and natural heritage of Nachi no Taki. A collectible piece for lovers of regional Japanese crafts and folk culture.
