CB200 - Cast Iron Nambu Dorei Bell 南部鉄器
This is a Nambu Tekki (南部鉄器) cast iron bell known as 幸鈴 (Kōrin), a traditional craft from Iwate Prefecture in northern Japan. Made in the iconic black cast iron finish characteristic of Nambu ironware, the bell has a graceful, teardrop-like shape with multiple small sound holes that allow the clear and resonant chime to echo beautifully. A vivid orange silk tassel and cord are tied through the top, providing a striking contrast to the deep black iron and a touch of celebratory charm.
The word 幸鈴 combines "幸" (kō, happiness or good fortune) and "鈴" (suzu, bell), signifying a “bell of happiness”. These bells are often used as charms or decorative gifts, thought to bring good luck, protection, and positive energy into the home or to the person who carries it. The included box, adorned with bold blue and white calligraphy, completes the presentation, making it an ideal regional souvenir or meaningful omamori (amulet).
Nambu Tekki, with origins tracing back to the 17th century, is a registered traditional craft of Japan and is renowned for its exceptional quality and durability. The bell embodies the refined simplicity and enduring aesthetic of Japanese metalwork from Iwate.
