This is a handcrafted dorei clay bell in the shape of a white rabbit, made in the traditional Kyō-yaki (清水焼) ceramic style. The bell is a fine example of 京陶人形 (Kyoto ceramic dolls), it bears the impressed mark Nishikizome 錦染 , confirming its origin and craftsmanship. showcasing the elegance and charm typical of Kyoto's refined pottery traditions.

This piece was crafted by Toshio Fujiwara (藤原俊男), born in 1951, the third-generation successor of the Heian Nishiki Dyeing tradition. After graduating from high school, Fujiwara trained for four years in Hakata and went on to receive multiple accolades, including the Kyoto Prefectural Governor's Award and the Kyoto Mayor's Award at exhibitions organized by the Kyoto Ceramic Doll Cooperative.

For over 80 years, beginning with his grandfather’s generation, the Heian Nishiki Dyeing family workshop has continued to produce exquisite Kyoto dolls, including hina dolls, gogatsu (May festival) dolls, ceramic Gosho dolls, and other traditional Kyoto ceramic figures. With deep devotion, Fujiwara continues this legacy, creating each piece by hand in the hope of sharing the grace and enduring beauty of Kyoto dolls with the wider world.

As a rabbit (usagi) figurine, it represents the zodiac sign for 卯年 (Year of the Rabbit) and is often associated with good luck, protection, fertility, and progress. The red cord allows it to be hung as a bell or charm, making it a delightful object of both aesthetic and symbolic value—an ideal gift or seasonal ornament with auspicious meaning.
