FT628 - Tsuchibina Hina Clay Dolls 土雛人形
A charming vintage pair of Japanese Hina Clay Dolls (土雛人形), depicting the traditional Emperor and Empress (内裏雛, Dairibina), the central figures of Japan's beloved Hinamatsuri (雛祭り), or Girls' Day festival.
Made from clay, this delightful pair features rounded, sculptural forms with gentle facial expressions and colourful traditional court costumes.
The Emperor wears a vibrant blue ceremonial robe decorated with gold details, accompanied by a tall golden court hat (kanmuri). The Empress is dressed in a rich red kimono with green, pink, and purple accents, holding an elegant golden folding fan. Their delicate white faces and peaceful smiles give the figures a warm, nostalgic character.
Tsuchibina are traditional Japanese clay dolls associated with Hinamatsuri (雛祭り), celebrated annually on March 3 to wish for the health, happiness, and well-being of young girls.
The Emperor and Empress symbolise harmony, happiness, and wishes for a prosperous future. Their simple shapes and expressive hand-painted details beautifully capture the warmth of Japanese folk art.
