Born in 1925 in Gunma Prefecture, Sansaku Sekiguchi holds the distinction of being the only officially certified Master of Creative Kokeshi by the Japanese Government. Over the course of his life, he won three Prime Minister’s Awards, among many other accolades. His dolls are beloved not only in Japan but also by collectors around the world, known for their emotional depth, minimalist beauty, and flawless construction.
His immense legacy continues through his family—his sons Toa and Toshio, and daughter Izumi, all of whom are acclaimed kokeshi artists in their own right and winners of numerous awards.
