K20126 - Naruko Kokeshi by Jinji Okazaki 岡崎仁治
This is a traditional Naruko-style kokeshi doll crafted by Jinji Okazaki (岡崎仁治, 1929–2004), He was the eldest son of woodcarver Okazaki Saikichi in Naruko-cho, Tamazukuri-gun, Miyagi Prefecture. After graduating from the old Furukawa Junior High School in March 1946, he began learning woodcarving under his father Saikichi in May of the same year.
Standing 21cm tall, the doll features Okazaki’s hallmark style: a soft, rounded face with a gentle expression and vivid floral motifs hand-painted in red, green, and black across the body. These chrysanthemums are a signature of the Naruko tradition, known for their symmetrical forms and attention to balance.
His eldest son Yasuo began training in woodcarving under Jinji in 1972. Other students of his included Matsutani Shinkichi , Sato Eiichi, and Nakahachi Tadashi. He worked hard for the world of Naruko kokeshi dolls, including holding important positions in the Naruko Wood Toys Cooperative.
Size: 6 x 6 x 21cm
