TB125 - Set of Hagi-yaki Plum Blossom Small Plates by Tenpōzan 天鵬山
Rare finds. Vintage item, never used. This elegant set features 5 handcrafted small plates created in the traditional Hagi-yaki (萩焼) style, a celebrated pottery tradition from Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. Each plate is shaped like a plum blossom, ume, a symbol of renewal, elegance, and good fortune in Japanese culture.
Tsubaki Kiln (椿窯) is a traditional pottery workshop located in Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture — one of Japan’s most historically significant ceramic regions. The kiln specializes in Hagi-yaki (萩焼), a style of pottery renowned for its soft textures, subtle color gradations.
The soft, organic form is complemented by a delicate, misty glaze blending pale pink and cool blue tones with subtle crackle patterns, characteristic of fine Hagi ware. The gentle gradation and tactile matte-gloss finish give each piece a serene, understated beauty that deepens with use over time.
The set comes in its original wooden kiri box, bearing hand-brushed calligraphy and seals, identifying the kiln and maker. A gold label on the plates confirms production by Tsubaki Kiln (椿窯) of Tenpōzan (天鵬山), a kiln known for refined craftsmanship and adherence to traditional Hagi firing techniques.
