This set of small plates is crafted in the tradition of Shino-yaki (志野焼) and signed by the artist Shūsen 秀泉. The plates embody the warm, rustic beauty that has defined Shino ware since its origins in the Momoyama period.

Each plate features a softly undulating square form, with gently raised surfaces and natural, organic contours. The milky feldspar glaze characteristic of Shino ware creates a serene ivory-white base, subtly accented by scattered pinhole textures and delicate fire marks. Along the edges, warm reddish-brown hues emerge where the glaze thins, revealing the clay body beneath — a hallmark of authentic Shino aesthetics and kiln transformation.

The tactile surface and understated design make these plates ideal for serving wagashi, small side dishes, or seasonal delicacies. Their quiet presence also allows them to be appreciated as individual works of art, reflecting the wabi-sabi spirit of simplicity and natural imperfection.

The set comes with its original wooden tomobako, inscribed and sealed, preserving both provenance and presentation. A refined addition to any collection of Japanese ceramics, this Shino-yaki plate set by Shūsen beautifully balances tradition, craftsmanship, and everyday usability.
