Vintage item, never used. This elegant kashibachi ( 菓子鉢) confectionery serving bowl) by Tachikichi (たち吉) embodies the quiet refinement and seasonal beauty long associated with Kyoto tableware. Founded in 1752 during the mid-Edo period, Tachikichi is one of Japan’s most respected ceramic makers, celebrated for over 260 years of craftsmanship that harmoniously blends traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern everyday functionality.

The bowl features a soft ivory glaze decorated with delicate autumn motifs, including graceful maple leaves (momiji) and geometric floral patterns rendered in warm earthy tones. The subtle speckled surface and gentle color gradation evoke the calm atmosphere of a Kyoto autumn landscape, while the rounded form gives the piece a warm and welcoming presence.

The aesthetic sensibility found in Hagi-yaki (萩焼), a celebrated style of Japanese pottery originating from Yamaguchi Prefecture. Hagi ware is especially admired for its muted tones, natural textures, and the warmth created by soft, slightly uneven glazes. One of its defining characteristics is the appreciation of subtle surface changes over time, known as “the seven transformations of Hagi” (萩の七化け), where tea, water, and age gradually deepen the character of the ceramic surface. This bowl reflects that same understated philosophy of beauty — valuing softness, imperfection, and quiet elegance.

Traditionally used for serving wagashi sweets, seasonal fruits, snacks, or shared side dishes, this type of 菓子鉢 was designed to bring elegance and hospitality to the Japanese table. Its generous shallow shape also makes it suitable as a decorative centerpiece or display bowl.

The original presentation box, adorned with celebratory Japanese inscriptions wishing health and happiness, adds further vintage charm and makes the piece especially suitable as a thoughtful gift item or collectible example of Japanese tableware culture.
