Vintage item, never used. A charming Arita-yaki 有田焼 kobachi set (小鉢), consisting of three small serving bowls with a clean, modern two-tone design.
Each bowl has a softly rounded form with a gently irregular, petal-like rim. The decoration is particularly elegant: the surface is divided vertically into white and a contrasting pastel colour, creating a simple graphic effect. The three bowls feature different tones—soft mint green, pale pink, and a muted blue-green / olive shade—giving the set a coordinated yet varied appearance.
The glossy glaze and restrained colour palette give these bowls a light, refined character that feels both distinctly Japanese and surprisingly modern. Their compact size makes them ideal as kobachi (小鉢), the small bowls commonly used in Japanese dining for side dishes and individual portions.
They are perfect for serving tsukemono (pickles), ohitashi, tofu, vegetables, small salads, sauces, desserts, nuts or other small dishes, and can also be used as snack or condiment bowls.
Arita-yaki (有田焼) originates from Arita in Saga Prefecture, one of Japan’s most important ceramic centres and a region with more than four centuries of porcelain-making history. While Arita is famous for highly elaborate painted porcelain, it has also produced many beautifully simple everyday designs such as this set.
