A delightful collection of 18 miniature Tsunami Dolls (つまみ人形, Tsumami Ningyō), traditional Japanese clay folk toys associated with Fusa Miyauchi (宮内フサ) of Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture.

Each tiny figure is individually shaped and hand-painted in vibrant shades of red, blue, white, pink, black, and gold. The collection features an enchanting variety of characters and animals, including Daruma dolls, traditional Japanese figures, tigers, and other auspicious creatures. Their playful expressions, irregular shapes, and lively brushwork reflect the charming simplicity of Japanese mingei (folk art).

About Tsumami Ningyō (つまみ人形)

Tsumami Ningyō are traditional miniature clay dolls from Takamatsu, made by pinching and shaping small pieces of clay by hand. They are also known as Tsumami Yomeiri Ningyō (つまみ嫁入人形), or miniature bridal dolls.

Historically, these colourful figures were associated with local wedding customs. Brides brought them to their new homes and distributed them to neighbourhood children as small gifts, symbolising happiness, prosperity, and good fortune.

The dolls traditionally feature lucky gods, animals, and cheerful characters, each carrying wishes for a joyful and harmonious life.
