K15080 - Omiyage Kokeshi - Sendai Tanabata Festival 仙台七夕

K15080 - Omiyage Kokeshi - Sendai Tanabata Festival 仙台七夕

This vibrant omiyage kokeshi doll celebrates the famous Sendai Tanabata Festival (仙台七夕 – Sendai Shichiseki), one of Japan’s most beloved summer events held annually in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture.

The kokeshi features a cheerful round head with a hand-painted smiling face and black hair adorned with a decorative red ribbon and floral ornament. Her cylindrical body is beautifully hand-painted with colorful Tanabata streamers (fukinagashi) — long, multicolored paper decorations traditionally hung from bamboo branches during the festival. These vivid streamers, paired with bamboo leaf motifs, capture the lively and whimsical atmosphere of the celebration.

The doll is both a charming tribute to the Star Festival (Tanabata) — which celebrates the legendary meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi — and a nostalgic souvenir of Sendai’s rich cultural heritage. A delightful addition for collectors of regional kokeshi or anyone drawn to Japan's seasonal traditions.

Size: 7 x 7 x 15cm
