This elegant Naruko Kokeshi was handcrafted by Taketoshi Takahashi (高橋武俊, born 1951), a contemporary master of the renowned Takagame workshop in Naruko Onsen, Miyagi Prefecture. As the eldest son of celebrated artisan Takeo Takahashi, Taketoshi grew up surrounded by one of Naruko's most respected kokeshi-making families. After graduating from Rikkyo University and briefly working outside the craft, he returned to the family workshop in 1976, where he trained under both his father and his uncle, the accomplished craftsman Shōgo Takahashi. He began producing kokeshi under his own name in 1977 and has continued the Takagame legacy ever since.

This doll is a refined example of the Naruko tradition, distinguished by its rounded head, elegant proportions, and gentle, welcoming expression. The delicately painted eyes and subtle smile convey the warmth and serenity that have made Naruko kokeshi beloved for generations. The characteristic floral decoration framing the hair complements the finely balanced facial features, creating a timeless and graceful appearance.

Much of Taketoshi Takahashi's technical foundation comes from the guidance of Shōgo Takahashi, while his artistic philosophy reflects the teachings of his father, who encouraged innovation rather than simple imitation. In recent decades, Taketoshi has become particularly devoted to researching historic Naruko kokeshi, carefully studying early examples and recreating forgotten styles with remarkable historical accuracy. This dedication has earned him recognition as one of the important contemporary preservers of the Naruko tradition.
