Vintage item, never used. This rustic Karatsu-yaki (唐津焼) yunomi embodies the understated elegance that has made Karatsu ware one of Japan's most beloved ceramic traditions for over four centuries. Originating in Saga Prefecture during the late 16th century, Karatsu ware is celebrated for its natural beauty, practical spirit, and the philosophy that true refinement lies in simplicity.

The cup features a soft grey ash-toned glaze over an iron-rich clay body, complemented by an expressive hand-painted motif executed in earthy brown tones. The abstract brushwork evokes wild grasses or seasonal plants swaying gently in the breeze, a characteristic example of Karatsu's spontaneous and unpretentious aesthetic. Each brushstroke reveals the potter's hand, lending the piece warmth and individuality.

Its cylindrical form sits comfortably in the hands, while the unglazed foot exposes the coarse texture and warm colour of the clay beneath. The subtle variations in glaze, tiny speckles, and quiet imperfections are not flaws, but treasured qualities that reflect the wabi-sabi sensibility deeply rooted in Japanese tea culture.

Often described by tea masters as "the pottery of daily life," Karatsu ware has long been admired for its ability to enrich ordinary moments. Whether used for enjoying green tea, hojicha, or simply displayed as part of a ceramic collection, this yunomi offers a timeless connection to Japan's enduring appreciation for authenticity and natural beauty.
