A charming set of Banko-yaki 萬古焼 meimeizara (銘々皿) made by Santō 三陶 in Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture (三重県四日市市), presented in its original wooden storage box.
Each plate is decorated in blue-grey brushwork with a different botanical motif, creating a coordinated set while allowing every piece to have its own individual character. The flowers and grasses are rendered with simple, expressive lines rather than elaborate decoration, beautifully complementing the quiet earthy glaze. A small seal-style mark appears beside each design.
Meimeizara (銘々皿) are individual serving plates traditionally used in Japan for presenting wagashi, sweets, fruit, small appetizers or side dishes to each guest. Their compact size also makes them practical today as dessert plates, condiment dishes or small decorative trays.
