TB465 - Hanaire Vase by Kenzan Kiln 謙山窯
This vintage Japanese Hanaire (花入) flower vase was crafted by Kenzan Kiln (謙山窯) in the tradition of Mino-yaki (美濃焼) ceramics, originating from Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
The vase features a beautifully rounded shoulder and gently tapered silhouette, finished in a deep, glossy black glaze. Its surface is decorated with a delicate arrangement of Japanese irises (花菖蒲, Hanashōbu) in soft shades of lavender, pink, and pale blue, accompanied by graceful green foliage and fine gold outlines. A subtle gold accent around the rim adds a refined finishing touch.
In Japanese culture, the iris is a beloved seasonal flower associated with early summer, particularly the month of May. Traditionally admired for its elegant appearance, it also carries associations with protection, strength, and good fortune, making it a meaningful motif in Japanese decorative arts.
Mino-yaki (美濃焼) is one of Japan's most celebrated pottery traditions, with a history spanning over 1,000 years. Originating in the Mino region of present-day Gifu Prefecture, it is renowned for its diverse ceramic styles, ranging from rustic tea ceremony wares to finely decorated ornamental pieces.
The base bears the red seal of Kenzan Kiln (謙山窯), together with a JAPAN mark, identifying its Japanese origin.
Combining traditional floral elegance with the striking contrast of black glaze and pastel colours, this vintage vase is a beautiful example of Japanese decorative ceramics. Perfect for displaying seasonal flowers, practising ikebana, or simply enjoying as a standalone decorative piece.
