CB025 - Dōsojin clay bell ornament Dorei 道祖神

Japanese Dōsojin Clay Bell (Dorei) – Twin Deities of Protection from Shinshū Matsumoto Castle (信州松本城) This handcrafted Japanese clay bell (dorei) features a carved image of two figures in an embrace, representing Dōsojin (道祖神) – traditional roadside guardian deities in Japanese folk religion. These twin deities are widely revered as protectors of travelers, boundaries, fertility, marriage, and childbirth.

This bell has a naturally aged, stone-like texture and includes a rustic braided fiber cord with a red handwritten tag. The inscription on the front label reads 信州松本城 (Shinshū Matsumoto-jō), placing its origin in the historic area of Matsumoto Castle in Nagano Prefecture.

The red tag on the bell provides further insight into its purpose: Worshipped as a deity of safe childbirth, this charm is offered with prayers for healthy delivery in remote mountain villages."
