A vintage dog-shaped clay bell (dorei) hails from Yoshidaji (吉田寺), a historic temple in Japan. Lovingly hand-formed and painted, the figure features a white pup with an innocent expression, decorated in a bright red collar with gold dots and a green saddle adorned with a red floral crest. A red braided cord is attached to the top, perfect for hanging as a protective charm or decorative accent.

In Japanese culture, dogs (inu / 犬) are seen as guardians of the home and loyal protectors, symbols of devotion, safety, and good fortune, especially for families and children. Clay bells like this one, known as dorei (土鈴), are traditionally believed to ward off evil and invite blessings through their soft, resonant chime.

Dorei is a traditional handcrafted bell made from clay or ceramic, these bells produce a soft, pleasant sound when shaken. Often sold at shrines or festivals as charms to ward off evil and bring good fortune. The sound of the bell is believed to purify the surrounding environment and attract positive energy.
