This is a Dorei (土鈴) clay bell in the shape of a seated monkey, crafted as a traditional folk charm from Nishinomiya Shrine (西宮神社), located in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan.

The figure depicts a serene and noble-looking monkey dressed in ceremonial attire, with a red vest and a black court hat accented with gold. The monkey is sitting in a lotus-like pose, embodying composure and wisdom. On its chest is a crest motif, and the back features a red stamp reading “西宮神社” (Nishinomiya Jinja), affirming its origin. A white cord loop allows the bell to be hung, often as a talisman for good fortune.

In Japanese folklore, monkeys (saru, 猿) are considered divine messengers and protective spirits. Particularly in Shinto traditions, they are believed to ward off evil and misfortune. Monkeys are also one of the twelve animals of the Jūnishi (十二支), or zodiac, representing intelligence and adaptability.

Nishinomiya Shrine is the head shrine of the Ebisu faith, which honors Ebisu, the deity of good fortune and business prosperity. Every January, the shrine holds the famous Tōka Ebisu Festival, attracting thousands of visitors who come to pray for luck in business and success in the coming year.
