This Clay Bell Dorei Boar (亥) by Shōhō (昭峰) and produced under the esteemed Yakushigama (薬師窯) kiln— a brand with a ceramic heritage said to span over 1,000 years. Renowned for its refined auspicious ornaments and zodiac figurines, Yakushigama pieces embody both traditional craftsmanship and celebratory symbolism.

A distinctive red-and-white braided cord is tied at the top, enhancing both its visual appeal and its authenticity as a traditional dorei (土鈴). Inside, a small clay pellet produces a gentle, pleasing chime when shaken. Clay bells have long been believed to ward off misfortune and invite good luck, making them meaningful seasonal and zodiac talismans.

The boar (亥) is the twelfth animal of the Japanese zodiac and symbolizes courage, determination, protection, and prosperity. In folk belief, it is associated with vitality and forward momentum—qualities admired in both personal and communal life.

Signed 昭峰作 (Made by Shōhō), this piece reflects the artisan’s dedication to fine detail and auspicious design. Combining Yakushigama’s long ceramic tradition with Shōhō’s refined hand-painted artistry, this dorei boar serves as both a charming decorative object and a meaningful emblem of strength and good fortune.
