EM012 - Ema plaque Yoshimizuan 吉水庵

EM012 - Ema plaque Yoshimizuan 吉水庵

This is a Japanese Ema (絵馬) plaque of 吉水庵 (Yoshimizuan), a place where people write their wishes or prayers and hang them at shrines.

The plaque is made of natural wood and features a charming design of two white dogs, one larger and one smaller, illustrated in a traditional folk-art style. The dogs are adorned with red and green collars, symbols of good fortune and protection. Around them are motifs of pine branches and plum blossoms—plants often associated with resilience, renewal, and prosperity in Japanese culture.

On the right side, the black kanji characters 「福招来」 mean “bringing good fortune,” and the red stamp below them represents the zodiac sign 戌 (Inu / Dog), symbolizing loyalty, honesty, and guardianship.

The red and white braided cord at the top is used for hanging the plaque at a shrine after writing one’s wish on the blank reverse side. This Ema is likely designed for people born in or celebrating the Year of the Dog, or simply wishing for happiness and protection in their lives.

Size: 19 x 12cm
