VTT46 - Tsuko-Tegata︱Nago-dera 那古寺

Location: Nago-dera 那古寺, Tateyama, Chiba

Nago-dera is believed to have been founded in 717 AD during the Nara period by the monk Gyōki, a famous Buddhist priest credited with establishing many temples across Japan. The temple flourished during the Edo period when it became a popular pilgrimage site for worshippers of Kannon.

The temple is renowned for its Kannon (Goddess of Mercy) statue, which is said to bring blessings for safe childbirth, protection from misfortune, and good fortune.

Tsuko-Tegata is a kind of wooden passport that was used in the Edo Period as an identity card for travelers when passing from region to region. They had been sold a lot in Showa period as mingei type souvenirs all over Japan. It's also a protector for safety and peace for family.
