K15189 - Sosaku Kokeshi of Hanbok Pari 韓服
A vintage Japanese Kokeshi doll set from the 1960s–1970s, featuring a delightful couple dressed in traditional Korean costumes, known as Hanbok (한복 / 韓服).
This colourful wooden doll set beautifully combines Japanese kokeshi craftsmanship with Korean cultural inspiration, reflecting the playful creativity and international influences found in Japanese souvenir dolls during the Shōwa period.
Historically, Korean clothing styles varied according to social status, gender, and occasion. Women's traditional outfits typically feature a short jacket called jeogori and a flowing skirt known as chima, while men's clothing often includes a jacket, trousers, and traditional headwear.
Hanbok remains an important symbol of Korean cultural identity and is especially associated with celebrations, traditional ceremonies, and national holidays. These kokeshi dolls offer a charming Japanese folk-art interpretation of Korean traditional dress, blending cultural influences through decorative wooden craftsmanship.
