K05015 - Omiyage onsen souvenir kokeshi doll

This pair of omiyage kokeshi dolls came from Enoshima (江の島). It is a small island off the coast of Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, connected to the mainland by a bridge. It is known for its stunning ocean views, rich history, and cultural landmarks, including the Enoshima Shrine.

They crafted in the distinctive shape of sake bottles, blending traditional Japanese folk art with a rustic aesthetic. Each doll features a small, round head with finely painted facial expressions, exuding warmth and charm.
The bottle-shaped bodies have a natural wood grain texture, incorporating rough, bark-covered sections that highlight the raw beauty of the material. One doll is painted with a deep red accent, while the other features a dark indigo, both decorated with gold and white patterns that enhance their handcrafted appeal.

Additionally, they are adorned with woven cords and tassels, adding a touch of traditional craftsmanship reminiscent of shimenawa (sacred ropes) found in Japanese culture. Sake is often used in Shinto rituals, such as weddings and New Year celebrations, symbolizing blessings and abundance. The sake bottle represents the deep-rooted cultural practice of sharing sake during important occasions, whether in rituals, festivals, or social gatherings.
