SHP407 - Shikishi Calligraphy by Miyako 美弥子
A refined original Japanese shikishi calligraphy artwork featuring the two-character expression:「耳順」 (Jijun)
The phrase comes from the Confucian Analects (論語) and is traditionally associated with the age of sixty. Confucius famously described the stages of his life, saying that at sixty:
“My ear was attuned.” It means reaching a stage of maturity where one can listen to different opinions, criticism, and the words of others without becoming disturbed or resistant.
The two characters are written in strong, deliberate black brushstrokes, with a restrained composition that allows the meaning of the words to remain the central focus. The simplicity of the design gives the work a quiet dignity well suited to the philosophical nature of the phrase.
A meaningful piece for collectors of Japanese calligraphy, Confucian philosophy, kanreki and longevity-related art, original shikishi, or works centred on wisdom and maturity.
