TB186 - Set of 2 Yunomi Tea Cups – Calligraphy by Aida Mitsuo
This charming set of two yunomi tea cups features calligraphy by the beloved Japanese poet and calligrapher Aida Mitsuo (相田みつを), whose words are known for their warmth, simplicity, and deep human insight. Each cup is inscribed with the phrase:
仲よき事は美しき哉
“To live in harmony is a beautiful thing.”
Rendered in Mitsuo’s unmistakable freehand style, the calligraphy is paired with gentle, hand-painted motifs of persimmon (柿) and mushrooms, symbols often associated with autumn, humility, and everyday abundance. The soft ivory glaze and subtly rounded form give the cups a comforting, approachable presence.
The set includes two matching lidded yunomi, one with a black lid and the other with a red lid, creating a pleasing contrast while clearly forming a pair—ideal for sharing tea. The lids help retain warmth and aroma, making them practical as well as decorative.
