TB268 - Hagi-yaki Tokkuri and cups set 萩焼
Vintage item, never used. This elegant Hagi-yaki 萩焼 sake set from Hagi-dono Kiln 萩殿窯 beautifully captures the quiet refinement and natural warmth that define traditional Hagi ware.
The set includes a tokkuri (徳利) and two yunomi cups (湯呑), all finished in a soft, atmospheric glaze that gently transitions from a pale bluish-grey to a warm blush pink near the base. This subtle color gradation is characteristic of Hagi pottery, where the interaction of clay and glaze during firing creates unique, unpredictable tones known as Hagi no nanabake (“the seven transformations of Hagi”). The surface reveals a delicate crackle (kannyū), which will continue to develop and deepen over time, enhancing its wabi-sabi charm with use.
The tokkuri features a gracefully rounded body with a slightly flared spout, designed for both aesthetic balance and practical pouring. The two cups are comfortably sized, with a pleasing tactile feel that reflects the hand-crafted nature of the pieces.
The set comes complete with its original signed wooden box (tomobako) further affirming its authenticity and origin from Hagi, Yamaguchi Prefecture—one of Japan’s most revered ceramic traditions, historically associated with tea ceremony culture.
Size: 8 x 8 x 12cm (Tokkuri)
