TB350 - Seihō Kiln Hagi-yaki cup 萩焼
Vintage item, never used. This refined Hagi-yaki (萩焼) yunomi by Seihō Kiln (正峰窯) is a beautiful expression of the quiet elegance that has made Hagi ware one of Japan's most treasured ceramic traditions.
Handcrafted in Hagi, Yamaguchi Prefecture, the cup features the warm, earthy clay body characteristic of Hagi pottery, complemented by a soft ivory-white glaze that gently flows over the rim in natural drips. Delicate blush-pink tones emerge where the glaze meets the clay, creating a serene landscape of color that is unique to the firing process. The subtle variations, fine crackle (kannyū), and tactile surface embody the Japanese appreciation of wabi-sabi—the beauty found in simplicity, imperfection, and the passage of time.
Made by Seihō Kiln (正峰窯), this yunomi reflects the enduring craftsmanship of Hagi ceramics, where each piece is individually glazed and fired, ensuring no two are exactly alike. Over years of use, the porous clay gradually absorbs tea, allowing the cup to develop its own rich patina—a beloved characteristic known as "Hagi no Nanabake" ("the seven transformations of Hagi"), where the vessel quietly evolves with every cup of tea.
Its gently cylindrical form fits comfortably in the hand, making it equally suited for everyday tea drinking or quiet moments of contemplation. The yunomi is accompanied by its original signed tomobako (wooden storage box), adding to its authenticity and collectibility.
A timeless piece for lovers of Japanese ceramics, tea ceremony aesthetics, or anyone who appreciates handcrafted pottery with depth, warmth, and character.
