Vintage item, never used. A refined pair of Japanese yunomi tea cups (湯呑) produced for Tachikichi (たち吉) and made by Eishō (永昌). Presented in their original signed wooden storage box, the two cups form an elegant complementary set in deep indigo blue and warm vermilion red.

Each cup is decorated with a stylised plum blossom motif (梅) rendered in gold. Delicate branches, buds and open blossoms extend across the coloured surface, accompanied by fine gold bands around the body and rim. The interiors are finished in contrasting colours: rich blue within the indigo cup and clean white within the red cup.

The plum blossom is one of Japan’s most cherished seasonal symbols. Blooming while winter still lingers, it represents resilience, perseverance, renewal and the arrival of spring. Its restrained form makes it especially suited to the elegant simplicity of Japanese tea ware.

The softly rounded cylindrical shapes sit comfortably in the hands and are suitable for serving Japanese green tea, hōjicha or other warm drinks. The contrasting colours give the pair the character of meoto yunomi (夫婦湯呑)—coordinated tea cups traditionally associated with couples—while remaining equally suitable for individual use or display.

Tachikichi (たち吉) is a historic Kyoto ceramics brand established during the Edo period. With more than 260 years of heritage, the company is admired for tableware that combines traditional Japanese craftsmanship with refined, practical design.
