TB83 - Japan Hagi-yaki Tea Cup Set 萩焼

TB83 - Japan Hagi-yaki Tea Cup Set 萩焼

Vintage item never used. This set of five Hagi-yaki tea cups, crafted by Tenpōzan of the Tsubaki Kiln (椿窯) in Yamaguchi Prefecture, captures the quiet beauty and warmth for which Hagi ware is celebrated. Each cup displays the characteristic soft pinkish-beige tones and delicate, organic texture that emerge naturally through the kiln’s firing process. The subtle variations in glaze and tone reflect the spirit of wabi-sabi — the appreciation of imperfection and transience that lies at the heart of Japanese aesthetics.

Tsubaki Kiln (椿窯) is a traditional pottery workshop located in Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture — one of Japan’s most historically significant ceramic regions. The kiln specializes in Hagi-yaki (萩焼), a style of pottery renowned for its soft textures, subtle color gradations.

Deepening their beauty over time in what is known as Hagi no Nanabake — the “seven transformations of Hagi.” Their gentle, tactile surface and natural warmth make them ideal vessels for tea, inviting calm reflection with every use.

Presented in a handcrafted wooden box inscribed with calligraphy, the set embodies both artistry and authenticity. Whether enjoyed in daily tea rituals or admired as a collector’s piece, this creation by Tenpōzan of Tsubaki Kiln stands as a serene expression of Japan’s enduring ceramic tradition.
