A refined vintage Futaoki (蓋置) set featuring two beautifully contrasting pieces—one in elegant Celadon (青磁, Seiji) and the other in rustic Bizen-yaki (備前焼). Presented together in their original wooden box, this pairing celebrates two of Japan's most distinguished ceramic traditions while offering versatility for the Japanese tea ceremony.

The celadon futaoki is crafted in a graceful hexagonal form with a soft jade-green glaze. Delicate carved spiral lines wrap around the body, adding subtle movement beneath the luminous glaze. Its crisp geometric silhouette and serene colour embody the refined elegance traditionally associated with celadon ceramics.

In contrast, the Bizen-yaki futaoki showcases the raw beauty of one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns. Hand-formed in a compact hexagonal shape, it is left unglazed, allowing the rich reddish-brown clay and natural kiln-fired ash effects to become the decoration themselves. The earthy texture, fire markings, and organic variations reflect the timeless wabi-sabi aesthetic that has made Bizen ware treasured for centuries.

A futaoki (蓋置) is an essential utensil in the Japanese tea ceremony, serving as a rest for the lid of the kettle or the bamboo ladle (hishaku). Though small in size, it plays an important role in the choreography of chanoyu, where every object is chosen with care to harmonize with the season, the gathering, and the tea master's aesthetic intention.
