TC64 - Chawan by Seikanzan-gama 清閑寺窯

TC64 - Chawan by Seikanzan-gama 清閑寺窯

This chawan (matcha bowl) is crafted by Seikanzan-gama (清閑寺窯), a Kyoto kiln known for refined Kyo-yaki / Kiyomizu-yaki traditions. The bowl features the 椆绘 (Shii-e, oak-leaf motif), a classic design admired for its quiet natural beauty and seasonal symbolism.

The soft, warm ivory-toned glaze forms a gentle ground for the vividly painted green oak leaves, outlined with delicate brushwork and accented by subtle gold detailing. Small reddish-brown elements add depth and rhythm to the composition, evoking the feeling of foliage seen in a tranquil garden. Fine crackle (kannyū) in the glaze lends texture and a sense of age, enhancing its wabi-sabi character.

Balanced in form with a slightly flared rim and a neatly finished foot, this chawan sits comfortably in the hands, making it both practical for tea practice and beautiful as a display piece. The overall impression is one of Kyoto elegance—calm, graceful, and deeply rooted in classical tea aesthetics.
