SHP56 - Vintage shikishi card Hina Ningyō

A vintage shikishi card from 1970s. Drawing of 雛人形 (ひなにんぎょう / Hina Ningyō), traditional Japanese dolls displayed during Hinamatsuri (Girls' Day). This elegant vintage shikishi board features a delicate hand-painted portrayal of Hina Ningyō (雛人形)—traditional court dolls displayed during Japan's Hinamatsuri (ひな祭り / Girls’ Day), celebrated annually on March 3rd. These dolls represent the Emperor and Empress or members of the imperial court, wishing for the health, happiness, and graceful growth of girls.

The figures represent the Odairi-sama (Emperor) and Ohina-sama (Empress) seated in traditional Heian-period attire. The larger doll at the back wears a formal kimono with layered patterns in soft rose hues, representing the empress.

The smaller doll in front is dressed in a similarly elegant robe, holding a ceremonial item. a fan, which is typical in classic doll displays. The soft, detailed brushwork and pale facial features reflect the Yamato-e style and the refined aesthetic of historical doll paintings. Their peaceful expressions and calm posture evoke the essence of feminine grace, tradition, and seasonal celebration.

It has visible signs of age, including foxing (spotting) and edge wear, giving it a beautiful wabi-sabi charm that highlights its vintage authenticity.
