One vintage Sosaku kokeshi by Sato Suigai. On her kimono sleeves painted and written 佐渡おけさ “Sado Okesa” The original song is said to be a Kyushu drinking song called Haiya-bushi, which was brought to the Ogi area of Sado by sailors, where it evolved from a parlor song into a Bon dance song and was sung at gold mine ore-dressing plants. It became famous overnight when it was released to the world as "Seisho Sado Okesa" by Murata Bunzo of the folk song group "Tatsunami-kai," which was founded in 1924.
