This is a sosaku kokeshi doll crafted by the renowned artisan Kon Akira (Seiju) from 1960s. The doll exhibits a modern and minimalist aesthetic, blending traditional Japanese elements with contemporary design. Made from polished wood, the figure features an elongated body adorned with subtle painted details, including floral motifs and a silhouette of a sakura petal, which are hallmarks of Kon’s artistic style.

The doll’s face is delicately painted with simple yet expressive lines, evoking a sense of calm and elegance. The inscription “吉野山” (Yoshinoyama) on the hat references Mount Yoshino, a location famous for its stunning cherry blossoms and deep cultural significance in Japan. This suggests that the kokeshi may be inspired by or a tribute to the beauty and tradition associated with Yoshino. The wonderfully long hair, similar to hair worn during the Heian period, defined as flowing hair. Women’s foreheads were emphasized with two black marks referred to as Bindi decoration, (traditionally, the area between the eyebrows) is said to be the sixth chakra, ajna, the seat of "concealed wisdom”, and is said to retain energy and strengthen concentration.
