Traditional Naruko Kokeshi doll crafted by Yusa Fukuju (1930–2001) This kokeshi embodies the refined aesthetic and craftsmanship typical of the Naruko style, one of the eleven recognized traditional kokeshi types from the Tōhoku region of Japan.

The cylindrical body gently tapers at the base and neck, showcasing hand-painted chrysanthemum motifs in deep red and yellow hues — a hallmark of Yusa Fukuju’s decorative style. The floral design is symmetrical and balanced, highlighting the artisan's precise brushwork. Yusa Fukuju Born March 17, 1930, as the second son of woodworker Takahashi Mori and Kikue in Naruko-cho, Tamatsukuri-gun, Miyagi Prefecture. In January 1939, he moved with his family to Akita City, and graduated from Akita High School in March 1944. His meticulous technique and elegant floral designs. His work continues to be highly valued among collectors and enthusiasts of traditional Japanese folk art.
