This striking Sōsaku Kokeshi Daruma was created by Kazuo Takamizawa (高見沢一夫, born 1927), one of the most celebrated masters of Japan's Sōsaku Kokeshi (Creative Kokeshi) movement. Active during the postwar golden age of modern kokeshi, Takamizawa helped redefine the traditional wooden doll as a true work of artistic expression, combining bold design with exceptional craftsmanship.

Kazuo Takamizawa is regarded as one of the foremost artisans in the creative kokeshi world. He received the prestigious Prime Minister's Award (内閣総理大臣賞)—the highest honor bestowed upon a kokeshi artist. In 1983, he was further recognized by being inducted into the Gunma Kokeshi Hall of Fame, cementing his place among the region's most influential woodcraft artists.
