Original artwork of Kintarō (金太郎) riding a boar is a powerful symbol of strength, courage, and determination. Kintarō is a legendary child hero, often depicted as a strong, wild boy raised in the mountains, capable of wrestling animals and possessing superhuman strength. He later becomes the famous samurai Sakata no Kintoki.

When Kintarō is shown riding a boar, it represents fearlessness and boldness – Boars in Japanese folklore are seen as symbols of bravery because they charge forward without hesitation. The boar embodies persistence and unstoppable energy

Figures of Kintarō on a boar are often given to young boys as talismans for strength, health, and success in life.

This imagery is especially popular for Children’s Day (Kodomo no Hi) on May 5th, when families display Kintarō to wish their sons strength and good fortune.
