A wonderfully personal original Japanese shikishi artwork from 1988, drawn as a gift for 河内治美さん (Kawauchi Harumi-san) and signed by the artist with the name 「突破」.
The piece features a lively satirical caricature, depicting a smiling man in a suit with exaggerated facial features, oversized hair, and a playful, almost theatrical expression. The figure is rendered with quick, confident black linework, giving the work the spontaneous energy associated with Japanese caricature and humorous manga drawing.
The style is a charming example of Japanese satirical caricature, related to the tradition of fūzoku manga (風俗漫画) and humorous portraiture. Rather than aiming for realistic likeness, the artist exaggerates distinctive facial features, posture, and personality to capture the character of the subject with only a few expressive lines.
Such drawings have long played an important role in Japanese visual culture, from newspaper and magazine illustration to entertainment, political satire, and commemorative portrait sketches.
A unique piece for collectors of Japanese caricature, manga history, satirical illustration, original shikishi, Shōwa/Heisei-era ephemera, or personalized presentation art.
