A beautiful vintage Kutani-yaki 九谷焼 tea cup set, comprising five matching yunomi-style cups decorated with an elegant and richly colored peony floral motif.

Each cup has a softly rounded, gently tapering form with a smooth white glazed body. The exterior is adorned with abundant blossoms in deep red, soft pink, green and warm earthy tones, with branches and foliage flowing naturally around the surface. Fine gold detailing along the rim adds a subtle touch of refinement and highlights the delicacy of the decoration.

The main motif is the peony (牡丹 / botan), one of the most celebrated flowers in Japanese decorative arts. Traditionally associated with prosperity, nobility, beauty and good fortune, the peony is sometimes called the “king of flowers” and appears frequently in ceramics, textiles and paintings.

Kutani-yaki (九谷焼) is a renowned ceramic tradition from present-day Ishikawa Prefecture, admired for its vivid overglaze enamels, expressive floral and nature-inspired decoration, and strong use of color. This set reflects that decorative character beautifully, combining a bright porcelain ground with richly painted botanical motifs.

The cups are ideal for serving sencha, bancha, hōjicha or other Japanese teas, while their floral decoration also makes them attractive as collectible vintage Japanese tableware.

Size: 6 x 6 x 7cm (Each)
