HM02 - Kyo-yaki condiment container 清水焼

A vintage Kyo-yaki condiment container 清水焼 薬味入れ crafted in the traditional Kyo-yaki (清水焼) style, a renowned form of pottery originating from Shichimiya Honpo (七味家本舗). It is a long-established spice maker founded in 1655 in front of Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Kyoto. With over 350 years of history, the company has been crafting high-quality, hand-blended shichimi togarashi (seven-spice blend), a staple of Japanese cuisine.

Many of their items, including containers like the Kyo-yaki condiment jar, are crafted in collaboration with local artisans, reflecting Kyoto's dedication to beauty, quality, and craftsmanship. Their store remains a beloved stop for both locals and tourists nowadays.

This piece is individually hand-thrown and hand-painted, making every container unique in its glaze and brushwork. The soft cream base with subtle green hues creates a rustic and warm appearance, perfectly complementing traditional Japanese table settings. The lid is made from natural bamboo fibers, tied in a traditional style to preserve freshness while enhancing the visual charm.

This container is not only functional but also a beautiful piece of art that brings the timeless elegance of Kyoto pottery to your dining experience.
